Killarney Folkfest, which runs for the second year from July 8th to 10th, has added yet more colour to its 2016 programme with the announcement today, that exciting Irish singer songwriter Marc O’Reilly, Dingle songstress Pauline Scanlon and the innovative force in Irish music that is Scullion will join the already stellar line-up which includes Christy Moore, The Waterboys, Little Green Cars & many more for three glorious days of music in the Kingdom’s capital. Marc O’Reilly, backed by his peerless band, will perform a set of his rare and beautiful songs which swing between wild blues and clean vocal folk harmonies.  He has released two critically acclaimed albums to date, ‘Human Herdings’ and ‘My Friend Marx’, establishing himself as one of the most exciting artists within the folk/blues genre, gaining comparisons with artists such as John Martyn and Bon Iver. He has toured all over Europe, appearing at major festivals including Glastonbury, Electric Picnic and Dranouter. He has also played in the US appearing at the Live in the Vineyard Festival in Napa, California. ‘Tense folk-pop, full of lightening fingerpicking and classic Irish storytelling’ Time Out London Pauline Scanlon, from Dingle in West Kerry, is one half of celebrated singing duo LUMIERE, a project which has seen her perform throughout the world in recent years including in Carnegie Hall New York in 2014.  As a vocalist and song-writer, she gained an enviable position in the Irish music scene with her stunning debut album, ‘Red Colour Sun’, followed-up by her recently-released album ‘Gossamer’. Coming from the Irish tradition yet equally versed on the world and contemporary music realms, she is capable of making the oldest ballads sound immediate and fresh while granting newer material a timeless resonance. Gossamer is a collection of songs steeped in loss and love. Produced by long time collaborator John Reynolds (Sinéad O’Connor, Seun Kuti, Herbie Hancock, Damien Dempsey), it sees Pauline push herself out of the acoustic and into a more electric soundscape.  “Her voice is a superb mix of china cup fragility and steely strength” The Irish Times Sonny Condell the creative core and inspiration for Scullion, the band that continues to invent and innovative. He writes music and songs that are powerful, poetic, soulful and joyful. One of Ireland’s most enduring creative artists, with Robbie Overson and Philip King  he creates the signature sound that is Scullion. The band’s back pages include the anthems, ‘Down In the City’, ‘Eyelids into Snow’ and ‘John the Baptist’.  Recent Scullion performances have sold out in a heartbeat, reconfirming their status as one of the best and most popular bands ever.
